I think that this ad on google comes with some helpful tips on how to properly give intructions. The author raises a good point when he states that "The biggest difficulty in giving instructions is [...] over-estimating what your audience already knows". I find it true that a lot of the time, in instructions, the person giving the information might think that the reader knows more about the subject then they really do.
