There has been much said about Internet and cell phone technology changing the way people communicate with each other. It was asserted that people today, particularly young people, are no longer as adept at actually talking and communicating with each other on a personal, face to face basis as previous generations, prefering to text, email, and instant message each other instead.
However, a new kind of communication technology has come about: Skype. Using web-cameras, and computers, it allows people to communicate 'face to face' without actually being face to face. Today, this technology has been adapted to computers, laptops, smart phones, tablets, etc. It is used by a wide variety of people, from young students, to talk to friends; to business executives, to hold video conferences.
I believe that, through this, people are learning to talk to each other once again, even if from a distance. The Internet did not destroy personal communication, it merely expanded it, and created new tools for us to be able to communicate with more people, across greater distances.
