I have paraprashed the following list from ask.com (http://careerplanning.about.com/od/negotiatingoffers/a/raise.htm), on tips for asking your boss for a raise:
1. Find what others in your position are earning
2. Determine what you are capable of earning
3. Find the "Financial Health" of your employer (what is their budget on salary)
4. Prepare actions if you get turned down
5. Make a professional appointment with your boss
6. Make a good Case
I just wanted to add, be confident and don't shy away from a higher salary. If you don't fight for your wage, no one else will!
